Son of Harpo Marx speaks to Susan McCray on “Getting To Know You”
Growing up in the footsteps of entertainment legend Arthur “Harpo” Marx, can do mysterious things. For Harpo’s son, Bill, it opened worlds of opportunity, magnetically pulled in interesting, talented people and provided a loving home.
Bill Marx has made quite a name for himself in his 50-plus years as a composer, arranger, and pianist, but the name he’ll always be connected with is his dad’s. Bill grew up watching Harpo’s amazing talent as a self taught harpist.
And the of course, there were all those Marx Brothers uncles: Chico, Groucho, Gummo and Zeppo.
Listen in Tuesday evening March 17th, when Bill Marx shares stories and much more with Susan McCray on “Getting To Know You” 6:30 p.m. pacific 9:30 p.m. eastern time on KSAV.org.

Ricardo Montalban Dies today, Jan. 14 At His Home in Los Angeles, CA.
January 14th, 2009
Mr. Ricardo Montalban, a good friend, fine actor, widely respected for his efforts to create opportunities for Latinos in the entertainment industry, died this morning, Wednesday, at his Los Angeles home - he was 88. Mr. Montalban had been confined to a wheelchair in recent years and was in nearly constant pain from a congenital condition that affected his spine. He was quoted as say; “his acting ability, has grown because of the physical pain.”
Ricardo Montalban was a deeply religious man and said that the guiding force in his life was his Catholic faith.
Although he always expressed appreciation for his success, he complained continually throughout his career that Hollywood lacked respect for Mexican American actors. He established the Nosotros Foundation which is an organization that recognizes Latino participation in the arts and entertainment.
He was the true meaning of the word “Gentleman” My father worked with him on the film “The Singing Nun” at MGM. During that time, we became friendly and he came to our home for several parties with his beautiful wife Georgiana Young - sister to Loretta Young. I remember Ricardo saying, “I never turn down a role, for you never know what can come from it or who you might meet.”
I could list all of Ricardo Montalban’s great accomplishments and career history in films and television and in the theater but, all that could never compare to what he gave to all of us as a caring, compassionate human being.
Services will be private but I am certain you will join me in sending our thoughts and prayers to his two daughters, Laura Montalban and Anita Smith; his two sons, Mark Montalban and Victor Montalban; and his six grandchildren during this difficult time of loss.

Page Cavanaugh … The Passing of a Legend in Jazz
Page Cavanaugh, a jazz pianist and singer whose popular trio in the 1940s and 1950s played in motion pictures and on Frank Sinatra’s radio show, died on Friday, Dec. 19th, he was 86.
The Cavanaugh trio also appeared with Frank Sinatra at the Waldorf-Astoria and elsewhere and played for NBC Radio’s “Jack Paar Show.”
The Page Cavanaugh Trio was one of the most popular nightclub acts in Southern California from the 1940s to the 1990s, performing at Ciro’s, the Trocadero, the Captain’s Table, the Money Tree and the Balboa Bay Club. He continued to perform until his passing. Cavanaugh may well have been the last of his kind — the great saloon singers and musicians who were in at the final flowering of he Great American Songbook and remained true to their code.
I am presently producing a “Getting To Know You” show to honor Page Cavanaugh and his life in music. Included in the show will be selections from the last CD he recorded with Phil Mallory on bass and Jason Lingle on drums entitled “Return to Elegance” which was released in 2006.
A beautiful 85th birthday celebration was given last year for Page Cavanaugh at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Among the uests paying tribute to him that evening were Nancy Sinatra Sr., Nancy Sinatra, Jr. Army Archerd, Marilyn King and Tom Hatten.
It has been said that the bartenders union owes Cavanaugh some sort of award for his service to their patrons Make it one for Page Cavanaugh … and one more for the road!
Happy New Year everyone and lets raise our glasses to the best of his kind … Mr. Page Cavanaugh …..
